I have a 1997 17’ Maxum boat, I had water in the fuel so I cleaned out the tank and the carburetor, it started but the engine was running rough and started smoking them shut off, I rebuild the carburetor so fuel it’s good, replaced spark plugs and checked spark and it’s good, I noticed water in the engine oil and also changed the oil and level, check fuses and all good but does NOT want to start, just trying to find out is anyone knows what else I can check, it’s an old boat and I honestly don’t want to the shop

Did you have the distributor out of the block? Have you checked your timing? Make sure spark happens when the valves are closed for that cylinder.

how can you adjust the timing?
there is a whole bunch of information at the top of the thread page i.e. "stickies" read through them, that will answer a lot of questions you have and will continue to have

get yourself an oem service manual, read up

you need to figure out how water got into your crankcase oil

Couple months ago we had a really bad rain and when I got the water out of the boat the last time I didn’t removed the drain plug 🤦🏻‍♂️ So it flooded on the inside, I had to replace the fluid for the trim, didn’t replaced the motor oil though, and I pretty sure that’s how the water got in,
