Hello all.
SO here's the situation: Boat is great. Engine starts and runs without flaw - with one exception.

When its time to throttle down and go to neutral, what I get is a "higher than I want it" idle speed - that would result in an uncomfortable CLUNK when gears are re-engaged.
My solution is to 1. utter a verbal objection 2. step to the back and flip up the rear engine cover, reach in and grasp throttle linkage cable and pull it so that the idle speed comes down to a quiet purr - that leaves me unafraid to push it into gear.

SO basically, its embarrasing. Is the cable serviceable? - Or just replaceable? Looking for advice.

Thanks.

Need to find out if it's the cable or the throttle control. If the cable is sticking, you can remove it and try getting lube down inside, most the time it's just better to replace it. If it's in the control box, need to remove and grease it up, maybe adjust a bit.

Now if it is the lower shift cable, just replace it

Ayuh,..... The throttle cable may, or may not be worn out/ sticky, gunked up, but it's Out of Adjustment, for Sure,....

The throttle cable should be pushin' the throttle closed, if it ain't, disconnect it from the carb, lengthen it, 'n reinstall onto the carb lever,...
It should be Just Snug, against the carb's idle adjustment screw,.....

OK, will begin the tinkering process Saturday.
Thanks for the feedback.

The adjustment comment perked me up. I took a quick look at it but the solution did not jump out at me.
Maybe I need to open my eyes a little farther.........
Where is the spot to look for adjustment? Presuming it to be at carb - end of cable at linkage.
