Mercruiser 3.0 water pump issue

Hello all Mercruiser Experts,
I have a Mercruiser Alpha 1 and have just changed the impeller. The old one wasn't in pieces but each vane was missing parts. So, I changed it out to a new one. After reinstalling the lower end and adding new gear oil, I tested it and noticed that the water is coming out the back end of the lower end. Not where it is supposed to. And some of the water started to turn green. Looks like the previous owner might have winterized it with regular Anti-freeze? (I'll say this now, I haven't taken this boat out on the water yet, I've been repairing it).
What could be the issue? Is there blockage maybe?
Thanks in advance.

Water should be coming out the idle relief ports, which are holes on each side of the gimbal housing that allows exhaust to escape closer to surface where there is less pressure.

Unfortunately it's not coming out of the gimbal housing. I even tried to put water directly through the exhaust manifold and it's coming out through the the bottom end. Not through the gimbal housing.

Sorry, I guess that is where it is supposed to be going. I think I may have missed the water hose when I re-installed the lower end. I'll try it again.

you not making any sense. Water introduced at the manifold come out the exaust, out the releifs and maybe out the prop. Did you remove the unit as a whole or just drop the lower

I just dropped the lower to change the impeller. I put it back together last night and I am only getting water out the prop only. Is this ok?
