Mercruiser 3.0 won’t start after warmup

Hello everyone please forgive me if I say something out of order this is my first post after stumbling across this great forum. I have a 2005 suntracker party barge 22 with the Mercruiser 3.0. The boat has maybe 20 hours on it. It has sat in storage for the past 5 years. I have drained the fuel, replaced the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump adding a glass filter right off the tank. New OEM fuel pump, oil change, water pump, carburetor rebuild and check ball valve from the fuel tank.

My issue..... the boat will fire right up when it is cold. After warming up the engine will drop RPM and idle fine. Throttle response is fine. After running the boat and turning it off I cannot get it started again. It’s gotta be a fuel delivery issue. If I pour gas down the carb the boat will start back up and run fine but starting it is the issue. I have since taken the carburetor to a specialty mechanic to test and overlook my rebuild. Does anyone have any idea what could be the issue?

Might be an air leak in the fuel line.

Probably not a legal inline glass filter in a boat.

Thanks for the quick response. I will try putting the fuel line directly into a fuel container and see if the issue persists. I suppose it could be a small crack in the pickup tube inside the fuel tank.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Glass has no home in a boat's fuel system,......

Pull it outa there, 'n replace it with a canister type water sep/ fuel filter,.....

Thanks. I only put the filter there as a temporary fix to see any large sediment coming from the fuel tank and also to see the fuel flow. Just need to get the carb back and see if that was the issue. I like Rick’s thought on a possible air leak but it seems odd if it runs fine after it’s started.
