does any one know of perfomance kits such as cams ,intake carbs to increase the hp in the 140 3.0.there are smaller 4cyl engines that have more hp surely being 3.0 which is big for a 4 cyl that 140 hp is not the max.gm has 4 cyl 2.0 liters with 210 hp.

Re: mercruiser 3.0

the 3.0 is and industral engine that is a good low cost basic marine motor<br /><br />the bigest problem is that your stuck with the combo intake\exaust manifold pretty hard to get much more air flowing through it<br /><br />i have one and like it fine<br /><br />it has never been used in and auto so there are no motorheads on land comeing up with 4=6 kits the only real solution is a bigger motor<br /><br />tommays

Re: mercruiser 3.0

weight not being much of an issue but displacement is.i dont have much compartment room to go larger ie.4.3 a 3.7 will fit(488)but have read alot of problems with that engine must be why it was only produced for a couple years

Re: mercruiser 3.0

to be honest its cheeper to find a boat with a bigger motor than change out a 3.0 because you need a different uppper gear ratio with bigger motors<br /><br />i have a boat that was built to take a 3.0,4.3,or a 5.0 and it turns into a 8000 dollar + project easy doing the work your self unless you find a cheep donar boat<br /><br />tommays

cost not being a factor its just there is not enough room.its more of a sentimentle reason to keep the boat or i would get another one.

Re: mercruiser 3.0

sorry i hit enter too early my dad bought this boat the summer of 77 when i was 11 we used it three weekends and realized it was too small for a family of six so we put it in my grandads barn and bought a bigger boat in the mean time we forgot about this boat until 28 years later when my grand dad passed. it is still in perfect condition , not seeing sunlight or weather in those years i would be glad to email pics if you want, glenn

Glenn,<br />I understand your feelings for this boat.......<br />But,<br />Hot-Rodding a 3.0l Isn't going to Happen......<br /><br />Love the boat for what it Is........<br /><br />Try some different Props...<br />Smaller for Quick Planeing.....<br />Larger for Top-End......

Bondo's right, "Love the boat for what it is"<br />The 3.0L engine is much better than downgrading to a 470/488 Mercruiser.<br />Clean it up, keep it up and enjoy it.<br />If you need to go fast get a boat designed for it.

Re: mercruiser 3.0

I agree with the other guys. There is a-lot more to boating fun than going fast. There are probably a few things you COULD do to get more horsepower from the engine, for a short period of time. Let's face it, when you have a boat you love, the last thing you want to do is make it undependable.
