As abb by I’ve the the firstnpixtyrenitnis leaking oil is that to be concerned about can it be fixed easily that’s on the top of the engine. The 2nd photo has the tiniest weep of oil coming out is that a crack or a join there it’s about half way down on the left of the engine. Also the engine runs fine but every 5 mins makes a backfire they think it needs a new carb. Does that sound likely? The boat is a good price and they will go further on price to cover these issues but they don’t want to fix them as there mooring has run out. Do I take it or run a mile? It’s about 2 k cheaper than other similar boats but I could probably get another 2 k off for these issues. Thanks

Scott Danforth Grumpy Vintage Moderator still playing with boats Staff member Joined Jul 23, 2011 Messages 50,986 Mar 27, 2023 #3 you dont need a new carb, you need to clean the existing one. however the carb is the least of the problems the oil leaking looks like a pressure switch. that doesnt concern me as much as the rusty crack, which means the motor is damaged. if this bayliner is from the 80's or 90's run as the transom and stringers are probably rotten. I would run

M Mp31 Recruit Joined Mar 26, 2023 Messages 4 Mar 27, 2023 #4 It’s a 2009 bayliner so it is strange, that isn’t a crack it’s a plate and gasket than can be replaced apparently. But I am concerned if that rust has gone further. Only once on sea trial it appeared to be worse. Thanks

Thanks Click to expand... you are correct, its the lifter cover gasket. however that would not cause rust streaks. only a cracked head from improper winterization would cause rust streaks on that side of the motor.
