Two

And I should say look in your service manual because you should have one for what you are investing in.Get the real Mercruiser ones.

That said...one is on the side of the block, just forward of the bellhousing.

The other is just above it,but on the bottom of the manifold.

DHP
Welcome to boating.

And,
If the reason you're asking is in reference to Dry Winter Storage,
You Really should pull the Big Hose end off the Waterpump housing..........
Quite abit of water will lay in there........

If you're going to be doing your own Wrenching,
Definitely get a Manual........... ;)

Then make dead sure you have a manual before you drain it. Simply because no one here can see your engine and know if something is different than most. Perhaps you have a closed cooling system installed....no mention of draining the heat exchanger. How about power steering cooler...do you have power steering?? Is your engine plumbed into a heater of some sort?? That would have to be drained also.

Did you realize there is more to winterizing than just draining the block? What about the oil change and oil and fuel filter changes....what about the drive and ujoints???? Have you done them already?

Re: Mercruiser 3.0L Drain plugs

Just for an update.....I have purchased and read a manual for my boat. I am a little dissappointed in the manual. I got a Seloc manual on Ebay but the manual doesn't get specific on this one important topic about the drains. I do have power steering but not sure there is a cooler on it. I also have an open system(pulls from the drive). I understand that the drive should be pulled every year and the u joints greased along with gear and crankcase oil. Fuel filter will be done in the spring. I believe there is two right? One is the water and fuel separator and there is a filter on the carb correct?

Yes.....

If you have power steering, then you have a cooler......
It'll be mounted somewhere on the Incomming Water Line, which runs from the outdrive to the T-stat Housing.................
Find it,+ Disconnect the water hose from it... Either end.. doesn't matter.....

I took a Preetty Good Beating on another forum for saying that I didn't think that Seloc Manuals were the Best in the World a couple months ago.....
So I'll just say,
I think the Best Manuals ava. for Your engine/drive are written by the Engineers that Build them........
Factory Manuals are the Only way to go......

Re: Mercruiser 3.0L Drain plugs

Bondo,
I entirely agree about the manual. It covers very intricate items however, it tends to leave out everyday issues such as the seal kit for stern replacment, where the drains are located, etc.
I might keep the Seloc for the drive and just get a mercrusier engine manual.
I think rebuilding a drive, etc is out of my league. On the other hand I could do my own winterization

I ship OEM manuals out daily to people trying to do the job correctly. Make certain to include your engine serial number (in the email) to ensure you get the correct manual.
