I have a 1998 bayliner Capri with a Mercruiser 3.0L, 181CID. On my last trip out we where doing a lot of skiing and hit a big wake. Soon after when we killed to moter to switch skiers it would not restart. I was told by a friend that is an auto mechanic (not boat) that the electric choke was broken off the carb. We messed with it and was able to limp in but it would not restart after that. My ?? is do I need a whole new carb or can I just get the choke and where do I find the part #

Thanks for the help

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard....
I'd have to assume your problems are Much Bigger than a broken Choke, as it only comes into play at Cold Starts....
Has the motor had a Full,+ Complete Tune Up lately,..??

Re: Mercruiser 3.0L

When I bought the boat, from a dealer, I was told that it did but I dont think so. I have changed the plugs, oil, lower gear oil, and cleaned the connectors on the distributor. It was running great. When we took the cover off the motor the "choke" was just haning there.

Re: Mercruiser 3.0L

If it's a mercarb 1 air idle mix screw on the choke the housing should be on the left side is the houlsing hanging off? or is the insert with the power lead just hanging off? if the bell shaped housing is hanging off I believe if memory serves it's held in by 2 screws and if the insert w/power lead is hangin off it's adjustable it's also held in w/ 2 screws and a stainless tab but if anything is actually broken on the carb replacement is required.hope this helps
