Hi All

I've never removed a car or boat engine and I'm a bit stumped on how this is going to work? My problem is that the motor sits under part of the back cap. The back hoist mount on the engine is approx 10" behind the edge of the cap.
I also only have about 2-3 inches of clearance once I remove the air filter. I've looked into an Engine Leveller but think I'll have an issue trying to get it in with such low clearance.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ayuh,....... You can gain height by pullin' the carb/ manifold off 1st,......

I would cut a slot for the chain
I would cut a small section out of the top
Then glass it back in or use teak, mahogany, SS polished, etc

If your slow and easy I think 3 inches is enough. I would use a 1 inch nylon lifting strap from the forward loop (wrap thru it), and connect with something and keep it short as possible. The strap will allow the motor to slide across the hook or shackle. This will allow the front of the motor to pitch up first if need be.

The rear just has 2 bolts which once removed do not bind anything. Remove the lag bolts holding the front mount and up it goes

I just reinstalled my 3L this past weekend.
You really don’t need to lift vertical much at all, really only need to support the weight enough to slide it forward. You are removing the outdrive in advance correct?
the rear mounts (2 bolts) will slide off the inner transom plate quite easily, removing the manifold adds some room and reduces weight by probably 75 lbs at the same time.
