mercruiser 3.0lx engine question

1996 3 liter 4 cylinder mercruiser engine.
The side of the engine that contains the spark plugs has a cover below it that sits below the cylinder head and runs horizontal. This cover on my engine has rusting around the edges and I was hoping to find out any info on this part. What type of problems can i run into replacing that cover?
I was looking in the manual but didnt see -maybe i just wasnt looking well enough. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Its a simple cover thats used for lifter access. Easy to change, and there are also rubber seals on the 4 bolts. 'nutcase
