~~I have a few question if anyone can help ? I have a 1986 mercruiser 3.7 170 closed coolant system. I bought the after market 3 wire conversion kit. I broke to of the tabs that are water pump/timing cover. I got a new one to put on. Do i need to buy the gasket for the two parts or can i use rtv ? other question is i had to move the pulley and the stator coil to get to the last bolt. Can i brake the magnets of the pulley or leave them on? also to i have to put the stator back it ? Now to remove this pulley i had to get a puller for it. How do i go about putting back on ? it says not to hit wit objects.

As far as I know you need the gasket. Leave the magnets on. You do not have to put the stator back on. You use a threaded rod or bolt (1/2 inch fine thread) a nut and some greased washers. You run the nut up the bolt, put on a stack of washers, screw the bolt into the end of the crank, then turn the nut against the washers to push the rotor back on.
