I have an 89 Dynasty Apollo 190 with a 165 hp 3.7l. I have changed the starter bendix solenoid once now and i am fixing to change it again. e solenoid keeps overheating and melting something inside. I was wondering if there is a way to convert it over to a starter that does not have the bendix solenoid. Maybe a screw actuated or spring actuated bendix?im still pretty new to the marine side of things. This is my first boat.

Welcome Aboard,...... No need to convert anything, just fix the 2 solenoid system it came with,.....

Ya need the slave solenoid to feed the starter's solenoid to keep the voltage high enough,.....

It's to far, through very small wires from the battery to the key switch, 'n back to the starter's solenoid to work without the slave solenoid,......

I'm not wanting to get rid of the slave solenoid. I want to get rid of the starter solenoid. The one attached to the starter.

you will need a starter solenoid no matter what type you have due to the high current. And No, solenoids just dont get hot and melt inside

I understand why the solenoid is there and thier function is and how they work. But do i need 2 of them in the same circuit. I dont see a reason to have a slave and then right in line of it another solenoid. Now from what i can see the one on the starter actuates the bendix or pushes the gear in line with the flywheel. At the same time it pushes a button inside on the end and sends voltage to the starter motor. What i want to do is replace the starter itself with one that only uses the slave solenoid.
