The engine number should be on the side of the valve cover. You may want to post some to pics for reference. Also welcome to the site.

welcome aboard.

post pics. if the stringer is in good shape, and well taken care of, it will last a long time. if it has been neglected, most parts are obsolete.

Sounds like an OMC Stringer but wouldn't have a Mercruiser Motor? Definitely need some pics. Maybe a Frankenmotor?

If anything breaks on that stringer, hold on to your wallet.

Re: mercruiser 3.o

That is definitely a stringer. On a side not. Get rid of that filter. It is not GC approved.

Re: mercruiser 3.o

It is a GM industrial engine but it doesn't matter what brand it is. It is hooked to an OMC so everything on the outside is OMC. If you strip an OMC 3.0l and a Merc 3.0l down they are they same. It is the externals that make it what it is.

Re: mercruiser 3.o

Ayuh,.... That's just a castin' number,...

The serial number will be on a sticker on the valve cover, or on an aluminum tag riveted to the block, down by the starter,...
