mercruiser 350 motor mount nut size

I need to remove the Chevy 350 from my '87 Bayliner Trophy in order to replace the starter. The front engine mount nuts seem to be 15/16" but there's a bit of play between the wrench and the nut; neither the box end wrench nor the socket really fit snugly, but I can't get the 7/8" to go on. (The rear nuts seem to be perfect 3/4").

Any chance that these nuts would be metric? on an '87 Bayliner/Chevy/Mercruiser? I suspect that these are factory nuts; does anyone know the "proper" or specified size? I can't find any info in Service Manual #24.

Thanks.

I would recommend removing the mount assembly with the engine and not removing the large nuts. Unscrew the two bolts on each mount that hold it to the stringer.

Yeah i was kinda headed in that direction; I'm thinking that there will be a better chance of minimal re-alignment issues if i take it clear down to the stringer. Thanks to you and to Bond-o for the advice. oh yeah and Bayliner decided to install only one of the two lag screws that holds the mount to the stringer. (on the starboard side). Common practice?

I'm gonna go for it and put the second in....
