I have a mercruiser sterndrive? with and intermediate drive.part of the engine spent some time underwater as leaves clogged the scuppers and the engine bay filled with water. I have located a replacement 350 but it is a volvo. my question is, before I attempt to swap them, what do I need to know about difference wise? is this a straight swap? I have a complete outdrive setup but hope that the engine swap would be the easiest and least invasive way to get the boat back on the water.

thanks, Judd

The actual Long Block Assembly is a 350 Chevy,.......

EVERYTHING Else is Different............

Your Swap will be about Impossible.............Nothing will Line Up........

Since when is a GM long block different between MerCruiser and Volvo?

I think Bond-o is saying that the assemblies won't swap. That is true but long blocks will.

Granted, manifolds and other will be different but a flooded engine doesn't ruin manifolds.

GM long blocks are GM long blocks.

Fancy, seems to me if all you are changing is the engine itself, you are good to go. I think bondo may have misread your question. I read it as you are replacing just the engine and will use your existing drive and ancilliary parts.

I Never Said the Long Block Assembley is Different,......
I Said they are the SAME..........

The Question posed is,......
mercruiser 350 to volvo 350

So,.......This,... Will Not Fit,

Where This Was.......

Yes,......
IF you Strip both motors Down to the Basic Long Block Assembley,+ Reassemble the Good 1 as a Mercruiser,.......
It'll Fit Just Fine........

But,.... Even Then, You May run into Fitment Issues from Different Vintage Long Blocks........
The Change in Crankshaft Bolt Patterns Could come into play.......
