Mercruiser 3L TKS, How often do you drain the block and exhaust manifold

Hi All,

Just wondering how often you guys drain the zhorst and manifold via the two blue hoses in the bilge?

Ive got into a habit of after use 5 mins on the muffs>clean it all down> then drain the zhorst and manifold via the two hoses.

Is this ok?

Ayuh,... The only time it really needs drainin' is before Freezin' weather...

I'm with Bond-o, the only reason to drain is to prevent freeze damage. I too would like to know what a zhorst is first time I read it I figured you got your fingers on the wrong key, but when you repeated the word later.....

'zhorst = Exhaust (Aussie Internet Forum Slang)

So I shoul stop bothering with draining these with the blue hoses as we dont reach anywhere near freezing temperatures here

Hi All,

Just wondering about this again because Im still in the habit of draining the block and exhaust manifold after each trip....

Would there be less chance of damage/rust in the internals if Its drained or with water in it?

It rusts more with the water drained out so air can get to the metal.
