Mercruiser 4.3 i/o Trim and Overheating

I just had my engine tuned up this summer and it has been running beautifully. But lately this fall, it has been overheating at very slow and high speeds that which were never a problem before, especially in this cool lake water. I have been trimming the engine up slightly to a mark on the gauge about 1/4 up from lowest point since this seems to make the boat run much smoother at higher speeds, but this is also when I noticed the overheating beginning. If trimming it up is stressing the engine, then it makes no sense for the overheating at very slow speeds, right? When I trim back down to the lowest trim point and speed up from no-wake speed, it seems to cool off the engine. But it also seems to limit the boats ability to achieve higher speeds ( I can cruise at 40mph with it trimmed to the 1/4 mark, but only 35 mph when trimmed at the lowest point).

Am I being a boating idiot with the trim and causing this problem or do you think there may be another issue at hand with the overheating, especially since it overheats at both high and low speeds, but not medium speeds.

Thanks all!

hello
when was the last time the cooling system was serviced? complete pump kit, check all oil coolers for debris? usually the first sign of a weak pump will show up at low speeds.
