Hey all. I tried searching the forums but couldn't really find what I was looking for. I am looking at project boat that a friend of mine owns. It's been sitting for about 5-6 years and has not been started since parked but has been winterized. I would like to try and get it started but also wondering what types of issues could arise from it sitting for so long? I am sure there are some things I will need to consider like fresh fuel and oil!
Any advice is much appreciated and if you know of a thread already discussing this please share the link.

first, why was the boat sitting. usually there is an underlying issue that causes them to sit.

secondly, how was the boat stored? if outside, the motor is the least of your worries. the transom/stringers/deck will be more of a problem

third, at a minimum, you are cleaning the tank, flushing all the lines and depending on what fuel system either cleaning a carb or sending in injectors to be cleaned

4th, all fluids need to be changed, the alignment checked, the gimble bearing checked, the bellows changed, the raw water impeller changed

5th, you will need to prime the oil system prior to cranking

Agreed at the very least you are going to be cleaning out the gas tank, cleaning and rebuilding the carb and changing all the fluids once it’s running. Take a look at the you tube channel Mustie1; he’s a master at getting neglected engines running and very entertaining to watch.
