Mercruiser 4.3 w/ Alpha One Can't Shift into Neutral?

I removed my Alpha One outdrive to install new gaskets and seals, but after re-installing it, I can't seem to shift into neutral? I have the plastic slider thing lined up properly and the metal l-shaped elbow is also lined up. I have taken the outdrive out twice now trying to figure out the problem but have no idea why it won't shift into neutral now?

Did you split the drive? Does the drive shift properly when it's off the boat?

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... My guess is, ya didn't get the lower unit to stay in Forward, with everything else in forward, when ya put it together,.....
