Boat: 1999 Chaparral 1830 Sport
Motor: Merc 4.3 Litre V6 EFI
Drive: Mercruiser Alpha One

Another vacation... down the drain. Took the boat up to a cabin we rented about 3 hours away to wake board and water ski.

Day 1: the boat ran fine for 7 hours but on the way in it started misfiring badly and we had all we could do to get to shore. When we returned to the cabin I checked all the plug wires and fuel filter and everything seemed fine.

Day 2: Took the boat out and after 20 minutes the motor started misfiring and we aborted our trip. Took the boat to a marine dealer and they checked it out and noticed that the carburator settings were off, tested it in a tank and on the water and $40.00 later I had my boat back.

Day 3: We took it out and 20 minutes later the same problems came up. At this point I called our mechanic and he suspected ignition system problems based on the 20 minute delay factor.

Day 4: We decided to head home to have our dealer look at it and our mechanic confirmed it was a faulty distributor that was causing the problem.
