Hi everyone. I purchase a motor this winter to replace one in the boat. After wiring it up, noticed that the fuel pump starter wire (one that turns the pump on for starting) was jumpered to be 12V all the time with the key to Run. Well after looking into this, I noticed that the starter solenoid post is missing, and that is the reason they jumpered this wire.

My though was to use the slave solenoid for this power wire, with a diode in place so the power cannot backflow and continue to run the starter. Will this work?

Let me know what you think.

You may want to check the starter you have. Someone could have put in the wrong starter or worse an auto starter.

I believe its broken off. There is a bunch of orange silicon were someone looks like they covered up the broken post. Might just wire in a momentary switch at the helm. Pretty much the same thing.

Or will pulling off the slave solenoid do the same thing with a diode so power can flow back?

Do it right. There is a reason it is setup the way it is from the factory.
