Mercruiser 4 banger?

Seen this motor in an 87 sylvan 28 foot pontoon. Guy couldnt remember if it was 120 or 140 horse. It has a mercruiser outdrive, so i assume that means it is a mercruiser power plant. These any good? Want the boat but he wants way too much, needs complete rebuild. Guess he is selling a new in 02 trailor and you get the boat free...

Do some reading on this board & look up some engine and drive prices. If you are technical and have some time it might be worthwhile as a DIY project to satisfy you personally.
If the boat is really free and you can sell the trailer for what you'd spend, it could be a worthwhile purchase. If it's a boat you'd want, look into repairing it. Just be cautious, go into any project with your eyes open. Don't ever fall in love with a mechanical thing. That way if it's unrepairable or too much money you can just give it away yourself and sell the trailer.

Thats a really old 120hp, actual longblock is a 153 cu in Chevrolet engine, marinized by Mercury.
