The engine for my boat has been sitting in the garage anxiously waiting for completion of the stringer & bulkhead repairs.

Just a little background . . . I did a teardown and valve job on the engine last Fall and put it all back together and ran it a few times. Only then to find structural issues in the boat that needed repair.

So, today, I thought that I would wake it up from its winter nap (I guess you could call that 'Summerize' ???). I shot some fogging oil into the cylinders and cranked it for a while to prime the oil and the fuel. Then I put the spark plugs in and fired it up.

I took a few videos of it running . . . I think it has a cylinder that is misfiring, but I'm not sure. Maybe some new spark plugs are in order. I don't think I have ever given it new spark plugs . . .

Then I did a cylinder leak test, which I had not done last Fall . . . I only did a compression test back then.

So here is a picture of doing the leak test . . .

I recorded the readings as I went using my iPad (I knew that thing would come in handy)

Here are the results:

Cylinder / Leak Percentage
________________________________
Left 1 = 8%
Left 3 = 1%
Left 5 = 1%
Left 7 = 3%

Right 2 = 6%
Right 4 = 6%
Right 6 = 2%
Right 8 = 6%

I was OK with these numbers, because before the valve job, I was looking at as much as 50% leak on some of the cylinders. These numbers, being under 10% are really good. So, I am looking forward to renewed horsepower and speed this summer. We will have to see how that goes !!!

I also found a valve cover bolt that was loose, so I'll have to tighten that up before it goes back in the boat.
