I have a extra aluminum 470 manifold, but I need to check it for cracks is there any way to check this thing for cracks with it being off of the engine besides visually.

make a jig to keep it level, cap the hose ports, fill carefully by pouring liquid into the slots of the manifold. let sit. examine
exaust ports for any wetness.

Re: mercruiser 470 manifold

most people use lacquer thinner as it will seep out of the tiniest of cracks

I have read that people use acetone. Not sure if that is the same as lacquer thinner or not.

acetone is one of the ingrediants of laquor thinner so either will work.

yes you can. just block off the fittings like BT doc stated, fill it up, then look inside for wet marks. if the level goes down, you have a leak.
