My Father's Day boating failure. 3 minutes out of the dock the starboard engine shuts down; no restart. Limp back home on one engine. Determine that the fuel lines are clear, flow is good, but the pump ain't pumping. Engine starts fine on starting fluid. Pull the mechanical pump and dissect. With less than 10 hours, I've got a part failure. See cracked Teflon washer in the attached pic. It's been placed on the black pump diaphragm so you could see it. This washer held the diaphragm actuating rod in place so when the engine camshaft moved the pump lever; the pump lever would move the diaphragm actuating rod and diaphragm. No washer = no fuel being pumped. According to the retailer, this is of Chinese manufacture. I'm livid. They'll replace at no cost but I'll still have a crappy Chinese pump. Bought a Carter M60337 Mechanical Fuel Pump to install and will keep the Chinese POS as a backup. Carter fuel pumps are manufactured in the USA, in a plant that is TS 16949 certified. I bet the Chinese saved $.01 with the cheap washer.

I'm trying to determine the manufacturer. Apparently, not of USA origin. No markings on the old pump housing. Will review the packaging of the replacement pump. The supplier was asked twice; no response.

Welcome to the club! (The Chinese fuel pump failure club, that is!). My Sierra mech fuel pump (yes...made in China!!) for my 5.0L failed after only 7.5 engine hours. Lucky I was pulling into dock when it gave out. Busted the same way yours did. Went and got an OEM pump and been happy for many, many hours now.

Installed the Carter M60337 Mechanical Fuel Pump w/ the thick gasket on the 470 this morning. A couple of cranks and we're off to the races. In fact, I don't believe that engine has ever idled so smoothly (@ 600 rpm). Can there be that much of a difference between the off-shore manufacture and the USA manufacture? Carter is clearly superior at this point.
