Mercruiser 470 starter

I have the older style starter with the separate slave relay, part # ARC50143 that has the wire post mounted vertically out of the rear of the case, and requires the separate slave solenoid, part # OEM 65067T1. Looking through the online catalogues, I notice that there's a single unit available, supposedly for the Merc. 4 cyl. CW starter (MES5275M) with the solenoid piggy-backed on the starter as usual, and it sells for substantially less. Will this work, or will there be some kind of conversion or clearance problem? There are notes out there that say the older style is more durable, but who knows? Sounds like they just combined the two. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks!
