Thats correct, a Holley is too long to fit as the carb sits sideways. However a Edelbrock/Weber AFB should work with an spreadbore to squarebore adapter. 'nutcase

I had my 2 quadrajets for my 3.7ls rebuilt by National Carb in Jacksonville Fla. They came back like NEW!! it cost me $175 per carb. Check out there web site www.nationalcarburetor.com. Good luck

One big advantage of the Edelbrock/Weber (and Holley) is the availabilty of tuning parts. Most Q-Jets tuning parts NLA and Mercarbs almost impossible. 'nutcase

thanks for your reply, i have checked out the Edelbrook carbs and the smallest marine carb i can see is 600cfm which is twice what i need, will this make it a no go situation?

You could go with a 4 bbl Mercruiser, with a (rare, hard to find) 4 bbl Mercruiser 3.7 manifold.

Yours has a 2bbl carb? That changes everything! You could then use the marine 500cfm Holley (Holley P/N 0-80402-1) with a adapter. I could swear the 485 was a 4bbl, but who knows decals are easy to change. 'nutcase

The 485 used a 2bbl carb, circa 80 - 82. The 488 was the first of the 4bbl carbs circa 83 - 84.
