Mercruiser 488 seperator plate(s)?

I recently took on a project boat that is in pieces and have been trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. The boat has a Mercruiser 888 era 1975 and the manifolds have been sitting on the floor of the boat for a few seasons. In doing research on how to put Humpty back together, I found a diagram showing standard water cooling lines. It shows a plate in between the exhaust elbow and exhaust manifold, they call this plate the "separation plate". Do I need two? One for each side? And where can I locate one, as I sure do not see the old one in the boat.

Holy cow, I made a mistake on the subject line, I have an 888, not a 488. I also do not have a heat exchanger like in the diagram for the 488.

In that case you must have an even larger love for the Ford 888, there are next to no parts on the boat side and nothing fits the drive side except the Ford.

You need two gaskets (item 18) and one plate (item 19) for each side of the exhaust. Note the water circulates thru the manifold then goes back to the thermostat housing, then out to the elbows

LOL I wouldn't call it a "love" for this engine. So basically I "do" need the restricter plates. Just placed an order, thank you for the valuable information!

The plate is available. If you went to the link above a click on item 19 which is part number 60207, BAM is selling them for 12.03 each. The gaskets are there also
