i need help...lol and not mental
although this cam stuff is driving me crazy
ok this cam appears to b a solid roller and came out of my 1997 gw invader which HAD a 305 mercruiser in it...now i have a350 and was going to use same cam but the grind numbers or part number thats on it doesnt give me information online or at comp or summitracing...can anyone help
im lookin for the lift/dur.lobe sep...etc..
the only numbers/letters on it are
cpc.bc.16...155
now if im not mistakin the BC in that means blank core and i believe it may be a custom grind...if so ....what company stamps there cams CPC???
and remember this came out of a mercruiser 5.0

thanx

You dont need the grind numbers to find that out. All your answers are in your hand. To figure valve lift take the distance that the cam lobe lifts the tappet and multiply it by the rocker arm ratio, this will give you the distance that the valve is opened . Measure lobe hieght from cam. So in my case the last cam i installed cut for 1.65 ratio rockers. .709 intake 698 exh 709/1.65 = 429.69 or
.430" lobe exh would be .423". you can degree your lobe seperation. duration would be a little more challenging.

Look up your motor in here if you want to know the OE parts. http://www.perfprotech.com/store/Catalog/parts-finder,3172.aspx

I was nosing around in there today and I think noticed the 305 and 350 cams are 2 different part #s.

Your motor sounds like someone was playing the upgrade game, can you measure the cam?

You may already know this but remember you don't want too radical a cam in a boat. Too much overlap causes reversion which can kill your engine. So make sure you don't use the cam if it's not boat correct.

Re: mercruiser 5.0 camshaft help????

thanx guys....i am going to measure the cam that i pulled out of my 305 like unloaded recommended. im curious as to see the toal lift...however i did order a marine extreme energy cam from comp this morning off the top of my head i think lift was like 470`s dur. 230 240 ....i did notice that the duration is what causes reversion right? and if that happens its going to be a hydro lock or no mo mota!!! i love the boat and dont wanna sell it but im sooooo tired of workin on it...this winter weve built motor ,outdrive, replace the flooring, having interior done now, and bout to do lil paint work....thanx again guys
