Hi,

I just bought a 2004 Sea Ray 240 Sundancer. I live up in Des Moines Washington and plan to moor it year round in the Puget Sound. I know there are corrosion issues with the Bravo III outdrive and want to try and do my best to prevent corrosion.

What is the best solution for flushing out the motor after cruising? I saw some people say they raise the outdrive, put muffs on, then lower it again and run the engine. Does this work? If not, how does a flush kit work? What is the cost of getting one installed?

A couple years ago I had a Cobalt 206 with a Volvo Penta 5.7 and kept it moored on a buoy in the Puget Sound. On that boat I had a Neutra Salt system installed and it worked well, but I would rather utilize the fresh water hose at my dock now.

Thanks,
Hunter

Flushing won't protect the outdrive from corrosion.

What you need to do is keep up with the anode protection. Make sure you have the prop anode and replace anodes at about 3 month intervals.

I don't think flushing is going to help much with the engine and will do nothing for the outdrive.

My old Amberjack had fresh water fittings up high on the transom, (twin 5.7's) that you could hook up a hose to and flush from the top down,.. but being moored you will have to find a way to block off lower unit intake.
