Mercruiser 5.0 not getting enough fuel

My boat had been running fine and developed an oil leak around the oil pan gasket. I had the gasket changed in the boat without an engine removal and now the boat will only run 15-20 seconds at a time. It does run fine as long as you pour gas into the throttle body. If you go out and crank the boat for the first time it will start fine with no issues. The more times you try to start it the less fuel sprays out of the injector until eventually the injectors don't spray enough fuel to start the boat. The fuel pump does turn on when the key is turned to the run position. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not know what year the motor is or the serial will make this a bit more difficult. Your hearing the fuel pump so if it is cool fuel which is on the port side of the motor behind the motor mount, then I would look there first. Check the electrical wires feeding the pump, the connector and the wires from the connector to the pump.

Is the pump installed correctly?

Edit: also check that the fuel line fittings are tight and your not sucking air on the inlet side

I will get the serial number when I get home. It does have the cool fuel and is installed correctly. The boat ran perfectly fine until I had the oil pan gasket changed. I will check the wires to the pump tonight as well.

The serial number is 0L375314 and it is a 2000 model. I did check all the fuses and wiring going to the fuel and relays and everything is in tact, tight, and not corroded.

Thanks for the SN
The wiring looks good, how about the fuel lines coming from the fuel filter to the pump. The fuel line had to be removed to replace the gasket, so it could be that the pump is sucking air. Suggest removing the line where ever the line was removed and check the seal.

Another though is have someone keep their hand on the pump to see if the pump continues to run while the motor is struggling. Would like to find out if the motor is dying because the pump stops or lack of fuel pressure

Can you give the motor more throttle and keep it running at higher rpm?
If so and it starts and dies at idle, then it may just be the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Now if it will die also with giving gas

Then I would suggest a fuel pressure test. Need an adapter for the TBI p/n 91-806901 or equivalent, and a fuel pressure gauge. Pressure should be 30 psi at 1800
