Finishing my 4th season of boating, considering a thermostat change while performing winterization. Fresh water use only. Total hours around 100. Never had a problem. Good Idea or not?

Don't worry about a thermostat, what you need to change is the raw water pump impeller. Most boaters never have to change a thermostat, but ALL have to change the impeller within 2 to 5 years depending on the age of the boat, not the hours of the engine.

Great advise Don... I would like to add that it may also be a good idea to inspect/replace u-joint and shift cable bellows also these components average about five years sometimes more and sometimes less, but when they do fail you may get that sinking feeling.

Thank you gentleman. These are the little things neglected in our owners manuals.

NYM,I recommend that you make the change.A thermostat is an easy change and should be done to prevent failure .Though failure is a slim chance, there can be a clog or partial blockage or simple malfunction which I recently had..It is also a good thing to have the housing apart every once in a while so it will come apart if you need to do a repair. The other suggestions you got I agree with but the "leave it alone "I disagree on .Charlie
