Hi there - we're looking to get back in to boating now the kids are a little older!! i have the opportunity to buy (on a really good deal!) an old but very tidy 1994 Rinker 260. its running a Merc 5.7 Bravo, assuming all is well for it's age, has anyone got any estimated consumption figures for a boat this size running that engine set up - the boat weighs in at around 6100lbs! any guidance much appreciated. all the best, Jason.

That is an awful lot of boat for that engine. Most boats that size have around 350-400hp across 2 engines, not 250hp from a single. I would be budgeting around 30-35 litres per hour at cruising speed (which is not going to be too quick either).... and as high as 75lph at WOT....

Welcome to IBOATS

As Chris mentioned, that's under powered and should have a 7.4/454 like Sea Ray 260's and my 270 does--minimum.

Since you're looking for guidance, if you're worried about spending money on fuel consumption then you might want to consider a smaller boat that is very thrifty at the pump then trade up when the time is right to spend $100-200+ every trip.

I have a 25ft which weighs 3,5 tons. its powered with a 350 rated at 290hp. Running steady at 3200rpm uses 40 45 litres an hour (11 gals aprox)

Just curious is that a fuel injected engine or a carbureted one and I/O or inboard?

"Bravo" makes it an I/O... and if the manufacturer/dealer has gone to such a small engine in that boat, probably to make it 'affordable', then I would doubt it is Injected....

Since it is small engine for that size/weight of boat . . . it will use a lot of gas . . . maybe 2 mpg at best.

I know the OP has a Bravo I/O but Beermak didn't mention what type of set up he had only that he burned 11 gallons an hour in a 25 foot boat that weighed 7,000 lbs. which sounded a bit off so I was curious as to what set up he had.

Howdy,

And by comparison, I have a 21ft Four Winns that weighs approx 5500lbs loaded with fuel and 5 people.

When cruising (30 mph) at 3000 RPM I burn 10 gallons per hour.

[carbureted, 454 cu-in Mercruiser, 300 prop-shaft HP, Bravo III]

Cheers,

Man that boat has got to be a dog out of the hole, and use a ton of fuel. Even with my 4400 pound 22ft sea ray I would not have anything else besides a 454.

I am of the belief that you cannot worry about fuel when boating. If you do, get rid of the boat.

If we're posting up consumption figures, here's mine... 17" 'Vengance' SS prop... Boat in signature...

The pink line is litres/hour
The blue line is speed in knots
The yellow line is the result of integrating them, litres/nautical mile...
