Im thinking of purchasing a 21.5' Fiberform fishing boat that has a 1994 mercury 5.7L V-8 with a 280 volvo outdrive. Was wondering if the merc/volvo motor to drive relationship will cause problems with compatibility for replacement parts and such. Off the top I can think of water pump systems being different between the two, anything else I should be looking for, going for a test run this weekend, want to be sure im not getting myself into a disaster.

Sure it's going to be a problem. Merc and Volvo are 2 different companies. A previous owner used what ever he could find to make it work.
Who knows what is there that doesn't belong to either one.
Don't even go for the test ride. Find a boat that is one or the other at least. Wonder if the guy drives a Dodge truck with a Chevy engine and Ford tranny and drive train. It's the same deal.
