Re: Mercruiser 7.4L engine date
wet dog,

I am Thomas and I work for Bennett Marine in the Client Service department.

I can't help you with your first question, but the trim tab operation is correct per our installation instructions. We designed our system controls to be very intuitive to operate, but the trim tabs operate in reverse of what you might think. The PORT trim tab lifts the PORT STERN, which lowers the STARBOARD BOW. Conversely, the STARBOARD trim tab lifts the STARBOARD STERN, which lowers the PORT BOW. With properly installed trim tabs, you will not be aware of this reverse function as the control function is based on the direction you wish to move the bow. If you visualize the control like an above shot of your vessel, it will make better sense in its operation. If your bow is high, you want to push down on the bow. So, you push on both switches at the top and the bow will go down. To achieve this effect both trim tabs extend into the water and push up or raise the stern of your boat because of the upward pressure created by the water flow under the tabs. If you have a PORT BOW high, you will want to push down on that side of the bow. So, you push on the top of the portside switch and the bow will go down. To achieve this effect the STARBOARD tab is extended into the water and lifts the STARBOARD STERN there by lowering the PORT BOW.

If you have anymore questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
MJ Thomas
Bennett Marine, Inc.
Client Services
trimtabs@earthlink.net
