I'd just replaced the impeller for a 1977 Mercruiser 888 and the lower hose is not picking up water. I connected a garden hose to the engine circulating pump and ran the motor. Water does come out of the outdrive water discharge when connected to the garden hose. Could it be the engine circulating pump is bad or is there a clogged in the hose? Please give advise to troubleshoot. Thank you Captains!

Was the outdrive working fine before the impeller was replaced?

the lower hose is not picking up water.

Do you mean, when muffs where used and connected to the outdrive and water turned ON, your not getting any water into the motor?

The motor circulation pump will not keep water from coming out the drive

I hope you didn't run the motor without water connected to the drive

If all was good before impeller replacement, then the tube and seal that connects the lower to the upper drive is either not installed, or missaligned

Just like A D says. Drop the lower, You may have missed the plastic water tube guide and the copper pipe is off to one side.

The pump dosent actually pump water, it moves water. If you tried running it in a tank you burned up the new impeller, if you ran it without muffs, you destroyed the impeller

Should I stick the plastic tube guide on the upper or the lower before the install?
