Mercruiser Accelerator Pump Problem

I have a 1997 Mercruiser 5.0 with a 2 Barrel mercarb. I rebuilt the carburetor with a Mercruiser brand kit. Prior to the rebuilt the accelerator pump worked just fine. After the rebuild the pump was no longer working. Upon taking the carb apart I noticed the accelerator pump came apart( the piston had disconnected from the plunger. I replaced it with a new pump and I am having the same problem again. Any suggestions or ideas as to why this is happening?

I verified it is the correct pump.

Ayuh,... Are the check-balls in-place in their wells,..??

Also did you use the spring off the old pump? You need to use the stiffer spring.

Those carbs are noted for plugging up and you really need to be diligent in cleaning out the accelerator pump circuit.
