Help!? I have a '96 Sea Ray Express Cruiser and
I think I have a Trim Tilt and/or Trailering limit switch problem...they only work intermittently ... the symptoms are getting more frequent. Is it a bad switch/solenoid somewhere?

Note: My Trim/Tilt gauge needle has not been working for some time but that was independent from the Trim Tilt since it still functioned until now.
Any insight prior to taking it to the marina would be greatly appreciated?

Re: Mercruiser Alpha 1 Trim Tilt

BB - Mercruiser uses a switch mounted on the outdrive pivot bolts (under water all the time) to allow you to trim up the outdrive. These rot out! The 'Trailer" function bypasses this switch. If neither of these functions operate, the problem is likely the upper solenoid mounted on the trim pump. If neither up, trailer or down work, the problem is likely bad positive or negative cables to the trim pump or blown fuse or open circuit breaker on the pump.

I have the exact same problem, it usually is when I try to trim it up when running. The trailer button usually works and the down always seems to.

Just chiming in with a similiar problem and keep waiting for great posts like chris1956

Thanks for the advice ...that is exactly what the mechanic told me! Just wondering what they wil charge me in labor for a $90 solenoid part?

Note: Unfortunately, I don't leave the boat in the water ...mostly it sits in storage :(
I just hate getting stuck in the freighter channel on Lake Huron.
