I have a 1989 Cobalt with a 350 (5.7) on an Alpha 1 unit. Boat has 200 hours, not kidding. When I had I/O's in the past, they were always VP so I am not as familiar with the characters of MC, but it define toy has a dog clutch.
Engine and boat run great, but they are two things I noticed that I need help with.
1. To take the boat into forward, I just hold the lock at the top of the shifter, and it goes in fine. If I put it back towards neutral, I can go straight into reverse, not engaging the shift lock.
2. Boat idles great, but after running it, and I put it into Neutral, the engine will idle high, 800-900. If I pull it back into reverse and then Neutral, it goes back to 610. I looked at cabling to the engine, I see the left side is my transmission, AMD speed is on the right, but did not notice anything unusual. When I have this problem, I would simply disconnect the cables at the engines, see where the engine wants them to be, and adjust the cables accordingly. Don't see how I do this is the Merc. I read a brief article, and it was long and redundant.
Need some help, Thanks
