Follow-up to mine of 2/8- in the meantime, while I am attempting to determine the actual cause of the water coming in thru the small hole just to port of the radiator hose on the transom housing and at the same height as the top bolts thru the transom holding-up the outdrive, would it hurt to screw a bolt into the hole to stop the water from coming into the bilge? Would this cause any more damage to what is already done? Wouldn't it just force the water to exit out of the outdrive?

Sounds like you are determined to make a bad situation worse.
How do you propose the water will be "forced" out the outdrive?
When it siezes and you are "forced" to rebuild/replace it?
Why not just fix it and be done with it?

The water coming into the bilge is not the "cause" of your problem, but rather the "effect". Water in your drive shaft bellows is the "problem". Water where it is not suppose to be will cause bad things to happen. You must fix where the water is getting in, not plug the hole where it is leaking out.

If water is in your U-joint bellows then plugging the hole is going to start forcing the water into the outdrive yoke seal(being that it is a one way seal).Eventually you will force all of the gear oil out of the drive and fill it with water, finally it will blow up. Like the old adage say's "Pay a little now or a lot later"
