Mercruiser alpha one gen 1

I'm new to boating my mercruiser alpha one is not going into any gears and everything looks to be where it belongs can I use a alpha one from a v8 to a 4cyl is there a differents

Need a lot more info on what's going on, but no, the gear ratios on a v8 won't work on a 3l most likely. Maybe a 5.0 using a 1.62 would work on a 3.7, but in general the typical 1.47 wouldn't work with the typical 1.94ish on the 3.0l

I changed all of my bellows and put everything back together and changed lower shift cable and the boat will not go into gear at all

Could the engine coupler be bad
Or when I put shaft in not in all the way

Was the shifter in forward gear when you removed the drive? And refitted it? Did you go through the shift cable adjustment procedure after putting the new cable in?
