Hello,
Please help. I recently purchased a 1987 Larson 19ft with a 3.0 Merc and an Alpha one outdrive. The motor was recently replaced by the previous owner and the boat has not been in the water since. I know he was testing the boat with no water connected and burned the impeller. I took off the lower unit and replaced all of the seals and gasket under the impeller and the impeller itself I also replaced the shifter bushing since there was some water in the oil I drained and I figured I would replace everything up there just in case. I had the boat in the water today and it started up fine and went into forward and reverse gears with no problem, everything seemed well. I cruised around for about 20 minutes and then went back to the marina. When starting to manover to dock the boat stuck in forward gear and the lever would not budge. I shut the boat off and it went into neutral just fine. The same exact thing happened in reverse. The boat will only switch gears when it is off. What does this sound like to everyone? Did I do something wrong when replacing the lower unit parts or is something else going on? Please help.
Thanks,
Allen
