Mercruiser Alpha Trim Rams Clips/seals

Hello
The clips on one of my trim rams have become loose as pictured, but it still works fine & doesnt leak - should i replace now, the boat is not kept in the water anymore & not used often.

That's caused by the end cap corroding and forcing out the seal and clip. The usual thing that happens next is the cap expands and starts to grab the rod. The next thing you will notice is that the drive won't trim down unless someone is standing on it. I would be replacing the end caps when time permits, (fairly soon)....

Can you purchase just the end caps? do I have to pull the whole thing apart for that?

The end cap is purchasable, but you do need to pull the ram apart to replace the end cap...

Do you have a casting number on the ram? If so, I can probably find you a part number...

BTW, that's not the ram from the drive on your previous thread is it?

Hi Here is a pic of the rams I am putting in the boat, I am replacing the pre-alpha rams as one is very very stiff.

That's not the same ram as in the first photo in this thread. These rams are also MC-1 rams (no such thing as a 'pre-alpha'), but are known as external line rams. Just be aware that parts for them are limited. You might be better off with Alpha One rams.

Ok, for these rams, the end cap part number is -87069.
