1986 Mercruiser 3.0 140 Alpha One Gen One Just installed a new (used) engine.

Boat did not want to go into reverse so I adjusted the lower shift cable. Boat goes into reverse nicely now. EXCEPT when I start to throttle up in reverse it engages the cut-out switch and kills the engine. It does not momentarily kill engine when going into reverse. (Therefore I believe I have done something wrong duh.....)

Are there any videos that show the assembly actually working? It seems like the switch should rollover and quickly re-engage the engine.

Thanks all for any help, suggestions, etc.

Does it throttle properly in forward?

If so, you may have not adjusted the lower throttle cable correctly. If it bottoms out in reverse, I expect it would move the shift interrupt switch, killing the motor.

Strangely, the motor seems to die when throttling up in forward when we get to 2000 RPM. Have to throttle up past 2000 RPM for it not to die????
Thanks for the response.
