Mercruiser Bellows Best cement?

I am getting ready to install new rubber on two recondition Bravo 1 drives/transom assemblies. If I can continue to endure the Florida heat... It is fmnnn HOT here! Most MC manuals recommend Quicksilver Bellows cement, while a couple recommend 3M Auto Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. 3M warns that solvents in their adhesives may weaken paints. I painted my metal with metal etching primer followed by automotive grade urethane (2 part) and I have not experienced any noted paint destruction (tests).But what about Permatex gasket maker? This seem to make a better water seal? If anyone has had bad experiences with the last two, please respond. THX!

I'd stay with the Mercruiser stuff . . we know that works. !!! :thumb:

It seems to me that the Permatex Gasket Maker would seal and fill in any imperfections. Being for an underwater application, this seems like a plus. I realize that I'd still need a SS worm clamp. THX

Merc's bellows adhesive is a form of contact cement. Light, thin application on each surface, wait until tacky then push the bellows home. If you have an exhaust bellows, it will never hold without this cement due to the stretch on the bellows. And I wouldn't trust my drive shaft bellows to anything other than the Merc or equivalent contact cement product.

Permatex gasket maker, Aviation gasket remain partially pliable. If you can't find Merc bellows adhesive, 3M black weatherstrip adhesive works well. Also a contact cement.
