i have a 18 ft sea ray w/ a 130 mercruiser . it runs great from idle to about 2700 rpm. then after about 5-10 second after reaching 3000 rpm or more it acts like its running out of gas. i back off throttle for a few minutes and accellerate againd does same thing otherwise runs excellant under 2500 rpm all day long. just installed new fuel water seperater and completely cleaned carb. any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated

Re: mercruiser bogs above 3000 rpm

thanks for reply is there a filter also in fuel pump? heard it was headache to changs would it be easier to just change fuel pump. also guy i bought boat from said there was water in tank said he removed it . im getting little to no water in filter now and have replaced the 10 gallons i burned up w/ 10 more gallons of premium
i can go from idle to 4500 rpm with no hesitation but after 10 -15 seconds it acts like its missing or starving for fuel. could pick up in tank be restricted? hard to have fun tubing at 2700 rpm which is where it seems to top out at b 4 stuttering occurs . thanks

my friends rochester carb has a filter in the float bowl at the fuel inlet. tube goes into a big copper nut screwed into the carb. remove the nut and there should be a paper or bronze filter . worth checking fred

What about the pump itself? Maybe the fuel pump is defective?

Have you tried a external tank to narrow down the search.
Is the tank venting properly,
sufficient fuel pressure,
float level set too low?
