Mercruiser Bravo Impeller Problem

I just replaced the impeller and housing on Mercruiser 7.4 Liter and it will not pump water. I replaced the impeller again, attached the intake hose, water was coming into the housing, but it would not pump it out of the housing. Seems elementary to me, but I cannot figure out why it will not pump. O=ring is new and plate is new. Housing is new and impeller is new. Water freely flows to the pump, but it will not pump. Very frustrating. Any thoughts?

You have the 2 hoses going into the back of the pump backwards............Don't ask how I know this.
The picture below is for a 93-97 raw water cooled engine. If you have something else, let me know.

On a stanard rotation engine the inlet hose is the connected to the top/outer hose connection on the back of the pump and the outlet hose is connected to the lower/inner hose connection. Also be sure that there are no leaks in the inlet hose (vacuum leaks) as they can prevent the pump from working.

Dave
