I was in the process of replacing my shift cable outer sheath when it got stuck on the nylon insert. I didn’t know it was an insert until I read up on it more after I had tugged and pulled and pulled on the cable until I couldn’t do it anymore. I finally was able to pull the cable through, force fully. Anyways to my point. I am trying to put the new cable in, but it won’t fit due to the brass on the end. Is there something I can do to get it through? I cannot get to the insert from up top. And if I drill it out, do I even need it?

alldodge The Nylon Insert that was inserted to slow down the wear of the jacket due to trimming up and down is what I was talking about, It shows nothing about it. Also says u should be able to pull the cable through, but due to the Outer Diameter of the Brass on the end of the Outer jacket it is too big to fit through the hole going back in. I was talking about drilling that out in order to fit the Brass end back through the back of the boat. I will be fishing the cable back in from the top and routing it according to the diagram.

You must have one of the early drives. Select the above link in post 2 and go to page 4A-27 and see if this helps
