It has been about 7 years since I did any major work on the outdrive. So, today, I figured what the heck, and ground the paint and primer off down to the metal.

My plan is to do a a anti-corrosive primer and re-paint. Before I do that I want to take care of some pitted areas from some corrosion, etc. (previous owner neglect, long story)

When I re-furbed the outdrive about 7 years ago, I used a general purpose epoxy to fill in the pitted areas. It worked OK, but this time I would like to use something a bit better. Here is a picture below of the outdrive after the initial grinding. You can see some of the pitted areas as well as some of the epoxy from 7 years ago.

What type/brand of filler would work best for filling and fairing of the pitted areas of the outdrive housing?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations. . . I plan on using Interlux outdrive primer and then an enamel top coat (gloss black). Finally, an Interlux clear gloss anti-fouling paint.

I still have some POR15 Engine enamel left from the engine re-build this past fall . . . I am wondering if that might be a good choice for the outdrive color coat ???

P.S. I know the skeg looks like crap . . . I have a stainless steel "skeggard" to go over it.

Ayuh,... I'd think the same as ya used the last time Ted,... Epoxy based fairin' putty...
Oops, or the guys at the drydock might have a preferred recipe, mine would be ground glass, cabosil, 'n resin...
I'd probably brush prime the rough, sanded surfaces with the resin with just the ground glass, then finish the putty with cabosil, 'n squeege it on....
Or, of course, you can buy premixed, Marinetex, 'n JBweld come to mind, but I know there's many more..

I'm in freshwater, 'n shoot my alpha every year or so with Rustoleum black...
She's black every spring at launch, 'n cruddy every fall when loaded out...
