hello all,

I have an older mercruiser 228, she used to have the older log style manifolds. But i upgrqded her to the later center rise manifolds and thermostat housing.

I am looking to change her to closed cooling. I am just curious is a front or a rear mount heat exchanger more efficient, or are they just mounted in those locations due to space? I have a friend who has a complete closed cooling system i can use but it is a rear mount exhanger.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

And you should limit yourself to installing on newish motor. Old motor = scale clogged heat exchanger.

I wouldnt put a heat exchanger on a motor that old unless you replace the motor with one without all the rust and scale in the water passages.

Thats essentially the reason i was going to get the set up was for if/when i repower, i just wanted to know if i should rather go with the front mount system
